Job Duties: Tender opportunityThe play therapist will be required to facilitate a minimum of two 12-week Lego-based play therapy programmes in one year as well as individual play therapy for a limited number of children who may, for various reasons, be unable to participate in a group session. The play therapist should be compassionate and be able to utilize play and psychotherapeutic techniques to help children with autism improve their emotional wellness, communication and social skills. They should have excellent communication skills with children and make connections between the signs, symbols and actions the child creates through play. They should promote positive change in the child by helping them to help themselves by coming up with their own solutions. The play therapist's responsibilities include initial assessment, programme design and delivery, monitoring and evaluating children's development across the programme and reporting back findings to the COS Project Coordinator.
Qualifications / Experience: The successful applicant(s) will:Hold a recognised play therapy or related qualification e.g. teaching, social work, nursing, psychology Degree/Postgraduate Diploma/Masters or equivalent.Hold membership of an appropriate professional body (BACP, BAPT, PTUK or equivalent).Have previous experience in facilitating play therapy to children and young people with disabilities (experience working with autistic children would be beneficial).Have a good understanding of the issues that affect children with autism.Plan and deliver therapeutic Lego-based play therapy interventions in group settings and individual play therapy sessions through various types of play.
