Job Duties: Provide a disability hate crime advocacy service with an open referral process supporting disabled people and their carers with reporting hate crime either through direct reporting or facilitating third party reporting. Visit clients in their own homes or utilise community / partner venues to carry out initial assessment of need. Support victim through the investigation process and actively work with the PSNI and other agencies to obtain a satisfactory outcome for the victim Upskill people with disabilities on their rights and to challenge people / agencies on issues that affect them. Facilitate the sharing of information to local Police neighbourhood officers, Hate and Crime Signal Officers as well as Victim Support.
Qualifications / Experience: Applicants must hold HNC/HND in relevant subject, or relevant equivalent qualification, plus relevant experience. Or Significant relevant experience in social justice, advocacy or community safety. The ability to demonstrate experience in supporting people to develop their confidence and skills to speak on issues that concern them. The ability to plan, manage and control a range of different work areas while under pressure. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. The ability to challenge individuals and organisations in an assertive and constructive manner. An understanding of Hate Crime and the Criminal Justice System in Northern Ireland. Hold a current full driving licence valid in UK with access to suitable transport on appointment. This criterion will be waived in the case of an applicant whose disability prohibits driving but who is able to organise suitable alternative arrangements.
