Job Duties: The role of the playgroup assistant is to assist the leader in delivering quality early years education and care to children aged from 2 years and 10 months to 4 years. The playgroup assistant will act as keyworker to a small group of children and ensure that their progress is effectively and regularly assessed by carrying out regular observations, liaising closely with parents/carers and being responsible for writing up progress reports on individual children. The playgroup assistant will help set up the play space both indoors and outdoors for the daily programme and help to tidy up at the end of each session. The playgroup assistance will lead on activities and offer appropriate stimulation and support to the children. Attend staff meetings and planning sessions as required. To participate and help with the drawing up of daily, weekly and monthly programmes of activities and events in accordance with desirable learning outcomes as defined by the pre-school curriculum.
Qualifications / Experience: Essential Criteria: Applicants must have a minimum NVQ Level 3 in Childcare and Education. Have at least one years' experience working with young children in a paid/ training/placement capacity with pre-school children who are funded by the education board. Have knowledge and understanding of the DENI, DHHSPS and CCEA (2018) Curricular Guidance for Pre-School Education Document. Have the ability to complete observations related to the pre-school curriculum. Have effective oral communication skills. Is committed to working closely with pre-school staff. Have effective ICT skills able to use Microsoft office.Desirable Criteria: Experience of working as part of a team. Ability to reflect on learning and care needs and use this knowledge to impact on children's learning outcomes e.g. in planning, procurement of resources. Ability to work independently using own initiative.
