Job Duties: The employer is: NEWRY STREET UNITE.The Afterschool Assistant will support the After-School Leader be responsible in the day to day running of the After-School Club to ensure safe, stimulating play in a safe and caring environment for children and their families.This will involve planning, preparing and delivering play-based activities appropriate for children aged 4-12 years.Responsibilities:To ensure that high standards of safety, security and hygiene are maintained at all times.To work with the Leader to ensure that the ethos behind the Afterschool is fulfilled.To demonstrate effective time and resource management to meet the planned needs of children and families.To carry out observations and assess each child's needs.Keep strictly confidential any personal information regarding the children, their families or other staff.You will be entitled to annual leave during this job opportunity.
Qualifications / Experience: Essential Criteria:Good understanding of child protection and the Minimum Standards for Childminding and Day Care for Children under age 12.Ability to identify problems and refer to Leader.Ability to work as part of a team.Ability to relate well to children and their parents/carers.Ability to lift children and equipment when required.Willingness to attend evening meetings and training.Specific play skills.An understanding of child development and the importance of parental involvement.Desirable Criteria:A qualification at QCF Level 2 Diploma in Child Care, Learning and Development or Playwork or related teaching qualification. A minimum of one years paid experience working with children.Child-Protection training.Basic Food Hygiene.First aid skills.Music/art/craft skills.Ability to contribute to session planning.
